I don't usually comment on substack but this was an effing gut punch that took the air out of me. Holy cow I am speechless.

I read your piece, and I can only say that; I don't believe I could ever dispute your solid. Believe it or not, I did read a lot about President Lincoln and what the text books say, only glosses over much of his true text. I'm humbled by your intelligence and passion in your writing. Thank You 🙏

and of course when we learn in school that Lincoln freed the slaves, we don't learn he didn't free slaves in Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware or Louisiana (which had already come under Union control and were more or less "freed" by General Butler's proclamation prior to Lincoln's. It has always amazing to me that the only slaves Lincoln freed were the slaves in regions he had no control over and could not free.

Why, when we are taught about Lincoln liberating slavery are we never taught the only slaves he freed were the slaves in another country (at the time.)

Hi Rohn, I love your wise articulation of the absurdity of white folks' assumption of superiority as they argue about who is "equal" to them. Women, too, know what it's like to be told that, "You've come a long way, baby." It isn't women who have to come a "long way" to be considered "equal" to men, just as it is a nonsensical concept that African-Americans have to wait to be admitted into the club of equality by the very people who suffer from the delusion of superiority. Rather, it's necessary for white folks, and men in particular, to awaken from their delusion and wonder why they ever needed to assume superiority in the first place. What original sense of inferiority was that delusion intended to counteract? Self and group reflection of that sort would be progress indeed.
