If Donald Trump spends a day in a lock-up prior to the 2024 general election for whatever political or civil crimes he is alleged to have committed, I will never write another column. I will drink muddy water and sleep in a hollow log. I will, as a "straight" male, wear a pink tutu at the intersection of Crenshaw and Florence in Los Angeles and twirl around with full on makeup (dangerous just to imagine). I will eat feces and bark at the moon. The only caveat to this is that the government, with malice aforethought, purposefully intends to create havoc and, in all truthfulness, that is a distinct possibility.
LookingNWords is read by people in 14 countries. I spent a half-dozen years paying my professional dues. I have had more rejections from editors (especially given the nature of my writing) than I have both hairs and freckles on my body. For me, the only thing more miserable than writing is not writing. The point is, I don't make the preceding statements lightly. Donald Trump will never see the inside of a prison prior to the 2024 election unless he does something else so heinous it is impossible to avoid. He knows it, I know it and you need to know it.
It ain't happening; let me tell you why.
The Transformation
As a "non-partisan," I am not blinded by partisanism for politically speaking I call balls and strikes. The entire political system in the United States is a set-up and I have always found it most ironic that a place that calls itself "united" works so hard to divide its population. If the U.S. populace were ever united the country would undergo tectonic changes in government and policy. It would, in fact, be a new nation. I will resist the urge to use the trite, but true, maxim of "divide and conquer."
Oops.
No other politician in the United States has ever been more consequential than Donald Trump. Perhaps as consequential, but not more. Donald Trump has transformed the political landscape in the United States for decades to come, in a myriad of ways. From introducing childish, new terms into the political lexicon like "fake news" to legitimizing and codifying blatant white supremacy to wickedly placing very young activists judges on the supreme court that could affect the society for the next half century. Donald Trump has illuminated the most sinister nature of a corrupt system known as U.S. politics. He is less a "stable genius" than he is an unstable idiot savant. Take your pick.
Even if Donald Trump dropped dead today (let alone went to prison) the Trumpgeist will continue to haunt the United States. For reasons that I cannot quite put my proverbial finger on, I do not believe Trump will become president anymore than I believe Joe Biden will. Something is afoot and neither will serve another term as president. Biden got his consolation prize and Trump will be pilloried and legally marked up to the point where he will not make it. Further, his vaudeville and burlesque style has gone by the way of the disco ball and bellbottom pants. Nonetheless, even if you don't get Trump...you are going to get Trump.
Donald Trump has shifted the partisan political paradigm. Donald Trump has Democrats fawning over Chris Christie. Donald Trump has Democrats seeing a flat out weirdo like Mike Mayonnaise Man Pence as a decent political figure. Donald Trump has Democrats longing for the days of Mitt Romney. Donald Trump has Democrats softening towards candidates, on the so-called "right" that they would have outright rejected before his presidency. Donald Trump has shifted the nation and, thusly, both bullshit parties so far to the right that there is no "left" or "center" anymore (not that I believe there ever was). There are only degrees of the "right." As a political scientist it is fascinating to observe; but, then again, the morbid curiosity that resides within humans always lends them to be transfixed by train wrecks.
Donald Trump has scared the living hell out of Democrats; Republicans, too.
Ergo, no matter what, Trump has relegated U.S. politicians to be forced into one of two corners; and he owns them both. They can either try to out-trump Trump (Mr. DeSantis has opted for this corner) or prove that they are a more acceptable version of him; which is the corner that most seem to be going to. The political specter of the Trumpgeist will "spook" the United States for a long time which leads me to the crux of the matter pertinent to this little ditty of a column.
What Donald Trump has done is commit the perfect sociopolitical crime and it is one that he has not been charged with, because he can't be. He has successfully Black-Male(d) an entire country. He has placed the society in a political gambit that is unprecedented for it is damned if it does, and damned if it doesn't. If Trump is not held to answer and prosecuted as would be anyone else, it will signal to him that he is untouchable; that he can "shoot somebody and not lose any voters" (an ominous statement, indeed). Conversely, if Trump were to be treated as any other defendant, which he has not and will not, and incarcerated there will be massive unrest. People will die.
Unless the United States purposefully, and willfully, wishes to see its already shaky society totally demolished it will not put Trump in prison; at least prior to the 2024 election and what meager credibility it has left will become non-existent. If you thought white boys went more nuts than usual on January 6, 2021, you ain't seen nothing yet. Eight months into his presidency they went crazy in Charlottesville, VA.
Both of these instances were limited in terms of locale and demographics; put Agent Orange in a jumpsuit to match his spray painted hue and lock his ass up you are looking at turmoil from coast to coast. On top of all of this, whereas most U.S. general elections are focused and predicated upon domestic issues, geopolitical events and foreign policy are going to be center stage in 2024 as "Western" hegemony's death has the entire world on the brink of total chaos. Donald Trump will never see the inside of a prison cell prior to the 2024 election; the mere fact that he was spared having to take mug-shots tells the tale better than I. So, cease and desist with the kabuki theater sociopolitical group grope.
It is almost impossible to find ammunition; especially if you are a Black Person in the United States. Interesting, don’t you think? But, alas, I digress and that is another column. Stay tuned and enjoy the Crapshow.
I think you miss the point of Trump's popularity, Mr. Kenyatta. Most of the people who vote for him are only racist in the clueless snow-blind way all us crackers are, nor are they particularly violent-minded. They're sick of politics and political people. They want somebody real even if he is an idiot. They didn't think Trump was smart enough to use them as badly as the previous 44, and they were right.
After four years in the White House, this fool still thinks the president runs the country. That, my friend, is some serious Dumb Ass.
Yes, he ought to be in jail. Show me the president who should not be electrified through the testicles until dead on national television. Damn right. I'd bring the kids.
Yes, he's got hard core supporters who make excellent use of the word 'base'. Those fools are not capable of getting Trump elected against the headwind of the whole establishment's anti-Trump hysteria: only the Dimmercranks have the political savvy to make that happen.
Don't look at me, I voted for Ajamu Baraka the first go round, and refrained entirely the second.
Cause being a clueless cracker does not mean I'll vote for a shit-licking racist, even if two are running at the same time.
I hope you're wrong. But I also hope my cousin Marjorie, Rick Perry, DeSantis, Gosar, etc etc, Clarence and Sam also get locked up before '24. I hope Biden gets a balls transplant and rounds 'em all. I hope he shuts down the stock market and makes it a law that businesses belong to communities and not individual "proprietor-masters. I hope he expands the house of reps to one member for every 250 people. Well I hope a lot of nutty things that ain't gonna happen. But I don't think we should allow everything to continue as it used to me. So use your voice and tell everyone to defend their communities.
But we will nevertheless see very soon if Trump goes to jail before 2024. Because if Judge Chutkan doesn't lock him up for bail violation this week, then he's a free man forever.
