Exquisite writing as usual, Mr. Kenyatta. A lot of NYT commenters express similar sentiments. Really like the NYT comments as they are generally very articulate and civilized (and moderated).

Today reading Abortion Every Day, another Substack recommended by Thom Hartmann, the same grim message:

Sigh.

I made calls for volunteers in battleground states for the Democrats today, tomorrow will make calls into NC for a campaign, last week made calls into Louisiana for a sheriff election in which the black candidate won by one vote and so a re-election was declared (Henry Whitehorn). This time Whitehorn won by 4,000 votes! There's one victory!

Those seemingly small victories matter, one election at a time. While things look grim, it is also true that there are decent people trying to turn the ship around, albeit slowly.

To cave into despair as Hartmann says often, "is not an option," and Joe Madison always asked people who despaired "What are you going TO DO about it?" So saddened to learn of Madison's death this year.

Identifying the problem is paramount, but without attempting a solution, what's the point in even getting out of bed every day? Must have some level of optimism to stay sane and soldier on.

For me attempting to pace myself, do what I can about the myriad serious local, national, global injustices including climate change without either being in denial or burning out from trying to do too much (which has occurred in the past rendering me hospitalized), have some fun, don't forget the sense of humor, detach regularly from political and social crises, listen to music, go for a hike or a run, see friends, meditate, then resume whatever activism to which one is committed.

Otherwise the damage to mental health renders one useless and can evolve into life-threatening mental and/or physical distress--acute or long-term.

Hope everyone is enjoying spring one way or another, cold here in NM this week.

“Donald Trump is not the disease he is a symptom of it. The United States has been heading to Donald Trump, and all that he represents, from its inception. Ergo, if it were not Trump himself, at this point in time, it would be Trump cloaked in a different personage which is why he has millions of clones…However, the societal cancer ward that is the United States is filled with patients that not only are unaware of their terminal illness they think they are in good health”

May I throw the compliment you recently termed on me back at you?

The author is brilliant and masterful and understands exactly what no one seems to quite. understand.

And they won't even consider the diagnosis!
